Grandpa’s Stories

When I was little, I used to sit cross-legged on the carpet, listening to my grandpa’s stories. He had a deep, soothing voice, the kind that wrapped around you like a warm blanket on a cold night. He would sit in his favorite chair in the living room, his old hands folded in his lap, and tell me about the past—stories of his childhood, of the war, of people he had known and places he had been.

I remember the way the lamplight cast long shadows across the room, the way his voice seemed to hum through the quiet air, the way he always ended his stories with a knowing smile, like he was letting me in on a secret only we shared.

But as I got older, Grandpa wasn’t around as much. He moved away, I guess. At least, that’s what I thought…
