The Man Who Walked Behind Me
It began on a gray Tuesday morning, the kind of day where the sky seems to hang too low, and the air feels heavy with something unsaid.
I had just stepped out of the bank, fumbling with my keys, when I saw him.
Across the street, leaning casually beneath the flickering sign of a bus stop, stood a man. My eyes passed over him at first, ready to dismiss him as just another pedestrian. But then I noticed the jacket. My jacket. Same scuffed elbows, same fraying cuffs. The jeans, too, faded in the same places, worn at the knees.
And his face.
My breath caught.
It was my own face staring back at me.
